BYU needed one touchdown to keep its perfect season alive. UCF’s defense wouldn’t give it up.

The Knights stopped the second-ranked Cougars on four straight plays inside the 10-yard line Saturday, sealing a 39–31 double-overtime victory in Orlando. It was UCF’s first win over an AP top-five opponent and the highest-ranked victory in school history.

BYU fell to 6–1 overall and 3–1 in the Big 12. UCF improved to 4–3 and 2–2 behind quarterback Keyone Jenkins, who threw for 293 yards and accounted for four touchdowns.

BYU Penalty Gives UCF Another Chance

The Cougars took a 31–24 lead in the first overtime on Bear Bachmeier’s touchdown pass to Legend Glasker. Jenkins needed one play to answer, finding Josh Derry for a 25-yard score.

UCF had the ball first in the second overtime and initially lined up for a field goal. A roughing-the-kicker penalty against BYU extended the possession.

Jenkins made the extra chance count. He hit Grayson Brousseau for a four-yard touchdown, then found Tyren Hornes for the two-point conversion and an eight-point lead.

BYU reached the UCF eight-yard line on its possession but couldn’t finish the drive.

Jenkins completed 25 of 41 passes without a turnover. He has been leading the offense since Alonza Barnett III was injured in September.

“I’m happy for UCF, a win like this has been a long time coming for us,” coach Scott Frost said in UCF’s postgame recap.

Cougars Lose Ground on Chaotic Saturday

BYU arrived in Orlando averaging 223.8 rushing yards per game. The Knights held the Cougars to 116.

Bachmeier finished with 257 passing yards, two touchdown passes and an interception. Kyler Kasper led BYU’s receivers with six catches for 129 yards and a score.

The Cougars weren’t the only contender to stumble. Seven ranked teams lost Saturday, including five beaten by unranked opponents.

Cincinnati defeated No. 8 Texas Tech 37–24, handing another unbeaten Big 12 team its first loss. Utah’s 21–13 victory over Houston left the Utes as the conference’s lone undefeated team.

For UCF, the finish was a breakthrough after losses to Houston and Oklahoma State. This time, the Knights turned a close game against a ranked opponent into a win.
